Trouttacular Adventure | 2023
Overview
Our trip to the majestic Henry’s Fork of the Snake River was held July 6th to the 10th this year. The Henry’s Fork is a dynamic river that runs through Island Park, Idaho, a quaint and beautiful town! Our trip consisted of fly fishing from drift boats for brown trout, rainbow trout, cutbows, and whitefish. The ladies reported having a reinvigorated joy of fly fishing, and increased knowledge of fly fishing in a dynamic river for various species.
Day to Day Report
Day 1: Ladies traveled from all over the country and arrived at Trouthunter lodge in the afternoon. After settling into our luxurious rooms, we enjoyed an evening of dinner next to the river and started getting to know each other.
Day 2: We woke up early with a gorgeous view of the river, enjoyed breakfast and then loaded up into shuttles and headed to the river. On day one, we floated a section of the lower river, Ora to Vernon. This section of the river offered lots of opportunities to sight fish for large browns on dry flies, and nymphing the faster sections for rainbows and whitefish. All of the ladies hooked into plentiful fish. We enjoyed a delicious lunch on the water and fished through the afternoon. After returning to the lodge, we swapped fishing stories and ate dinner by the river. As the evening turned to dusk, we got the opportunity to watch the native bats cruise around and munch on the mosquitos with the sunset over the river.
Day 3: On day three of our trip our group split apart and explored different sections of the Henry’s Fork. One boat fished McCrae and the other two boats tried their luck in the Box Canyon section of the river. The fishing was just as incredible as the first day! Everyone caught plentiful numbers of fish ranging from small to very large. Nothing but smiles and laughter all day from all three boats! After a great day of fishing, we all met back up at the lodge and once again enjoyed dinner right next to the river and watched a magical sunset.
Day 4: This day we woke up, enjoyed a delicious breakfast and decided to stick together on the river and floated, yet another fabulous section of the Henry’s Fork, Warm River to Ashton. On our way to the put-in we stopped at Mesa Falls, a waterfall which stands at 119 feet high and cuts through volcanic rock, an absolutely incredible treat! The Warm River to Ashton stretch of the river offered both slow and faster sections of river and incredible views. At this point in our trip all of the ladies were much more confident in their casting and landing fish abilities. It was another day of plentiful fish of all species offered on this river and smiles and laughter. Best quote of the day, “My face hurts from smiling so much, I love it here.” We returned to the lodge and enjoyed more delicious food as we enjoyed the sound of the river and a double rainbow directly over the lodge. A perfect ending to three perfect days of fly fishing!
Day 5: On day five we enjoyed sleeping in a bit and spent the morning sitting out next to the river and reminiscing about the previous days and the memories that we made together. We reluctantly said our goodbyes to each other and the Henry’s Fork with hopes that we can all return again soon.
